Contrast in a headshot

You often see headshots where the lighting is very flat and even over the entire face. And sometimes this is good, often preferred especially with ladies where this sort of lighting is very flattering. I generally don’t use it for men though especially men with chiselled features or where they’ve got a lot of character in the face which is what you see above. I’ve gone extra contrasty with this one because it worked so well for him. I’ve used the orange ambient light in the background to give it some depth then used two lights opposite each other – a stripbox key main light and a behind stripbox with grid as an sculpting light to add even more contrast. I think it works really well for this subject. Let me know what you think. Email me if I can help
